Speed
The service operates downstream at up to 2Mbps and upstream at up to 250kbps, offering always-on, unmetered access and unrestricted 24-hour TCP/IP traffic. The speed of a broadband connection is determined by the distance between your telephone line and the local BT exchange. While the majority will be able to receive 2Mbps, depending on your distance from BT’s exchange you may only receive 1Mbps or, in extreme cases, 500kbps.
Installation
Broadband requires a standard analogue phone line provided by BT. The service can be taken from any extension socket subject to the correct use of microfilters. The service is a self-install offering, so no engineer visits are required. The service gives you the freedom and flexibility to select the appropriate modem or router and the correct number of microfilters for your specific requirements – either from our range of fully supported broadband devices or from an alternate provider.
Router and Modem Selection
We offer 3 Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) options with the TRS HomeOffice service, all of which are supported by our technical support teams. The SpeedTouch ST330 modem is our entry-level product and is ideal for single-user connections. The SpeedTouch ST510 is a four-port Ethernet router, giving you the flexibility to network your home or office. The SpeedTouch ST580 Wireless Router gives you the option to create your own wireless network. We also offer a choice of wireless adapter cards for PCs and laptops, so you can purchase everything you require to get up and running quickly.
Contention
The service is contended at 50:1 (i.e. up to 49 other users could share the bandwidth).
